# License FAQ

Quick answers to common license questions. For full details on plans, pricing, and what each license type covers, see the main [Licensing ](/docs/licensing.md)page.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Two purchase channels.** Our plugins are sold both directly via [wpcloudplugins.com](https://www.wpcloudplugins.com/pricing/) (processed by Freemius) and through [CodeCanyon (Envato Market)](https://codecanyon.net/user/_deleeuw_/portfolio). Where the answer differs by channel, this FAQ marks each variant clearly. If you're not sure which one you bought through, check your order confirmation email — direct purchases come from "Freemius" or "wpcloudplugins.com", CodeCanyon purchases come from Envato.
{% endhint %}

<details>

<summary>Can I try the plugin before purchase?</summary>

Yes. We don't offer a downloadable trial, but you can explore a fully functional demo via our [Sandbox environment](https://demo.wpcloudplugins.com/) — both frontend and backend. The [demo pages](https://www.wpcloudplugins.com/) on our website also give you a good feel for what each module looks like in practice.

If you're not happy after purchase:

* **Freemius customers:** 14-day money-back guarantee, no questions asked
* **CodeCanyon customers:** refund window per Envato's policy.&#x20;

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I move my license to a different domain?</summary>

**Freemius customers:** Yes, freely. A license is intended for use on one site at a time per slot in your quota. To move:

1. On the old site: open the plugin settings → License → **Deactivate**
2. On the new site: install the plugin and paste your license key to activate

Deactivating immediately frees up that slot. No waiting period. You can move the license between sites regardless of whether they're for the same project or different projects.

**CodeCanyon customers:** Only in limited cases. A CodeCanyon license is tied to one **End Product** — the original site/project you bought it for. You can move the license to a different domain **only if it's still the same End Product**:

* ✓ Domain name change or rebrand of the same site (e.g. `example.com` → `example-new.com`)
* ✓ Moving from staging to production for the same project
* ✗ Different project, different client, or different site — requires a new license

If you need to use the plugin on a different End Product, you'd need to purchase a new CodeCanyon license. Alternatively, [convert to a Freemius license](https://wpcloudplugins.com/migrate), which is freely transferable between sites.

See the deactivate and move guide for the technical instructions.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I activate the plugin on a test site AND a live site with one license?</summary>

Yes, as long as the test site is clearly a development or staging environment. See the [list of recognized dev/staging TLDs and subdomains](/docs/licensing/local-staging-sites.md) for what qualifies. Dev environments don't count against your license usage. This applies to both purchase channels.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Why is the plugin not accepting my license code for activation?</summary>

If you have a valid license code, make sure that you also have installed the plugin package that belongs to the license. Lcense keys are not interchangeable between the CodeCanyon plugin version and the plugin version sold via wpcloudplugins.com (Freemius). The two versions use different licensing systems and only accept keys from their own system.<br>

* **Freemius license key**: starts with `sk_`, used in the version sold directly via wpcloudplugins.com.
* **Envato purchase code**: a UUID4 string (looks like `xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx`), used in the CodeCanyon version.

### Solution: install the matching plugin version <a href="#h_01kta14j89fag4e3n160dpvn5h" id="h_01kta14j89fag4e3n160dpvn5h"></a>

You need to install the plugin version that matches your license type.

#### If you have a Freemius license (`sk_…`) <a href="#h_01kta14j8966sw7wggzypfgm1c" id="h_01kta14j8966sw7wggzypfgm1c"></a>

Install the plugin version you received with your purchase, or download it again via the download link in your purchase email, or from your [Freemius account](https://customers.freemius.com/) under **My Licenses** or **My Downloads**.

#### If you have an Envato purchase code (UUID4) <a href="#h_01kta14j89ar43gpnvx49vpesd" id="h_01kta14j89ar43gpnvx49vpesd"></a>

Install the plugin version from your [Envato account](https://codecanyon.net/) under **Downloads**.

### How to install the correct version <a href="#h_01kta14j89282383451w3hphkd" id="h_01kta14j89282383451w3hphkd"></a>

1. Download the matching plugin ZIP package from the source above.
2. In your WordPress Admin Dashboard, go to **Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin**.
3. Select the downloaded ZIP and press **Install Now**.
4. WordPress will automatically replace the current plugin with the uploaded one.

**Note:** **To prevent data loss**, do not deactivate or uninstall the current version first if the *Delete Modules and Settings on Uninstall* setting on the plugin's **Advanced** tab is enabled. WordPress will replace the plugin in place when you upload the new ZIP, your modules and settings remain intact.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How do I use the plugin on a WordPress Multisite network?</summary>

The behavior depends on your setup — each WordPress install that's a distinct end-product counts as one site against your license.

**Freemius customers:** if you manage multiple subsites, pick the site tier (1 / 5 / 25 / Unlimited) that matches the number of subsites you're activating.

**CodeCanyon customers:** CodeCanyon licenses are single-domain. If you need to use the plugin on multiple subsites of a network where each subsite is a distinct end-product, you'll need a separate license for each — or you can [convert to a Freemius license](https://wpcloudplugins.com/migrate) and pick a higher site tier in one purchase.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How do I upgrade my license?</summary>

**Freemius customers:** you can upgrade to a higher site tier (e.g., 1 site → 5 sites) or from Standard to Commercial at any time from your [Freemius account](https://users.freemius.com). You pay the **prorated difference** based on time remaining in your subscription. For Lifetime licenses, you pay the difference between the two lifetime tier prices. No data is lost.

**CodeCanyon customers:** CodeCanyon doesn't offer tier upgrades. To cover additional sites, you'd need to purchase additional licenses. If you'd like multi-site flexibility in one license, [convert to a Freemius license](https://wpcloudplugins.com/migrate).

</details>

<details>

<summary>How do I renew my license?</summary>

**Freemius customers:** annual subscriptions renew automatically. You'll get a reminder email roughly 30 days before the renewal date. Manage payment method or cancellation from your [Freemius account](https://customers.freemius.com/). Lifetime licenses don't renew — they're one-time.

**CodeCanyon customers:** CodeCanyon licenses are one-time purchases — they don't expire and don't need renewal. The original 6-month support window is also one-time; if you need more support, you can [convert to a Freemius license](https://wpcloudplugins.com/migrate) for ongoing support.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What happens when my license expires or I cancel?</summary>

**Freemius customers (annual subscription):** the plugin keeps working on your activated sites. What you lose:

* New plugin updates (security and compatibility updates stop)
* Support access (you can no longer open new support tickets)

You can renew at any time to restore both. Sites that were activated before expiry stay activated.

**CodeCanyon customers:** your CodeCanyon license doesn't expire — your plugin keeps working indefinitely on your activated site. After your 6-month support window ends, you no longer have support access, but the plugin keeps receiving updates as long as it's available on CodeCanyon.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Where do I find my license key or purchase code if I've lost it?</summary>

**Freemius customers:** log in to your [Freemius account](https://users.freemius.com) — your license keys are listed under "Licenses". They were also emailed to you at the time of purchase. If you don't remember which email you used, contact our [support](/docs/other/support.md) with as much purchase info as possible.

**CodeCanyon customers:** log in to your [CodeCanyon account](https://codecanyon.net/), go to **Downloads**, and click "License certificate & purchase code" next to the product. If you can't access your CodeCanyon account, contact [Envato Support](https://help.market.envato.com/) for account recovery.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I get a refund?</summary>

**Freemius customers:** 14-day refund window, no questions asked. Request from your Freemius account or by contacting [support](/docs/other/support.md).

**CodeCanyon customers:** Envato's refund policy applies — typically up to 30 days for supported items, subject to Envato's [refund rules](https://help.market.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000084166-Envato-Market-Refund-Rules). Refund requests for CodeCanyon purchases go through Envato, not us. Initiate a refund request via <https://codecanyon.net/refund_requests/new>

</details>

<details>

<summary>What's the difference between buying directly and through CodeCanyon?</summary>

Both channels sell the same plugin with the same features. The difference is in licensing and what you get afterwards:

<table><thead><tr><th width="155.20001220703125"></th><th>Direct (Freemius)</th><th>CodeCanyon</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Payment</td><td>One-time (Lifetime) or annual subscription</td><td>One-time only</td></tr><tr><td>Site coverage</td><td>1, 5, 25, or Unlimited sites per license</td><td>Single-domain per license</td></tr><tr><td>Updates</td><td>Included while subscription active, or lifetime for Lifetime plans</td><td>While available on CodeCanyon</td></tr><tr><td>Support</td><td>Included while subscription active, or 12 months for Lifetime</td><td>6 months from purchase</td></tr><tr><td>Refund</td><td>14 days, no questions asked</td><td>Per Envato's rules (generally 30 days for supported items)</td></tr><tr><td>Billing</td><td>Freemius</td><td>Envato</td></tr></tbody></table>

</details>

<details>

<summary>Should I convert my CodeCanyon license to a Freemius license?</summary>

Up to you — there's no obligation. Reasons people convert:

* They want ongoing updates and support beyond what CodeCanyon offers
* They need multi-site coverage in one license
* They prefer dealing with us directly for billing, support, and updates

The conversion is **free for 12 months**. After that, renewal is optional. If you decide not to renew, you keep using your existing plugin version with your CodeCanyon license — nothing breaks.

To convert, visit [wpcloudplugins.com/migrate](https://wpcloudplugins.com/migrate) and enter your CodeCanyon purchase code.
